Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhea, and gas. If your dog experiences any of these symptoms, discontinue feeding them butternut squash and contact your veterinarian. Butternut squash can also cause pancreatitis in dogs. This is a serious condition that can lead to death, so it’s important to be aware of the symptoms, which include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and increased thirst. Like humans, dogs are omnivores–they eat a variety of plants and meats. However, there are CERTAIN HUMAN FOODS that may/ can be TOXIC TO YOUR PETS:

-Onions/Chives/Garlic: (damages red blood cells and causes anemia)
-Avocado (contains the toxin persin which causes fluid to accumulate in the lungs and chest making it difficult for them to breathe-leading to oxygen deprivation and even death)
-Yeast-Raw Dough/ Alcohol: (tiredness, depression, lack of muscle coordination, low body temperature, poor breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, tiredness, depression, lung failure, seizures, coma, and even death. As the yeast cells ferment, they produce alcohol, which causes blood alcohol level to rise and can ultimately cause alcohol poisoning and death. dough will expand in a dog’s stomach and can cause severe bloating. This puts pressure on the surrounding organs and can make it very difficult for pets to breathe)
-Chocolate/ Caffeine (restlessness, excessive thirst, a lack of bladder control, vomiting, and diarrhea, stomach pains, dehydration, abnormal heart rhythm or lung failure, heart attacks, internal bleeding, muscle tremors and seizures which can ultimately lead to death. Contains the stimulant chemicals theobromine and caffeine, both of which are very difficult for pets to metabolize.)
-Tobacco/marijuana/e-cigarettes
-Fatty foods: Oils
-Grapes/raisins raw or as an ingredient: (rapid kidney failure, which can ultimately be fatal. Vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, and depression. Excessive thirst and very little urine production)
-Macadamia (contain an unknown toxin that can cause weakness, muscle tremors, and vomiting in dogs. High in fat content which may cause pancreatitis, or an inflamed pancreas.)
-Salt: (cause neurological disorders, cerebral edema, vomiting, diarrhea, depression, tremors, fever, and seizures. It may even be fatal in severe cases)
-Xylitol (sugar alcohol: can lead to a sudden and significant drop in pet's blood sugar. Symptoms include vomiting, weakness, depression, difficulty moving, coma, and seizures)

As tempting as it might be to share your food or drink with your four-legged friend, please resist! Some food and drink items that you consider tasty treats may be dangerous for your pet.

The sweet aroma of our pumpkin & squash powders is spot on and smells almost like a brown or date sugar! Sprinkle some of our powder into your pets wet & dry food or beverage. Pumpkin & squash are nutrient dense healthy foods that are highly versatile and can be consumed hot or cold. The nutritional values are also amazing as they contain essential compounds as well as nutrients to keep you pets fit and healthy. They are also a good source of potassium which is important for nerves, muscles, and correct water retention.

Eating pumpkin & squash will benefit your pet's heart, eyes, skin and coat, gut, and immune system. They contain antioxidants – compounds that help prevent unwanted damage to cells in your pet's body and are high in fiber, which can help your pet have a healthy digestive system. We all, including our pets, have bacteria in our guts (our gut microbiome), which helps us to digest our food properly. Eating fiber helps promote a healthy gut microbiome (collection of germs that live in the digestive system).

As a rule, the summer squashes are soft with a chewable rind and can be fed raw, with rind and seeds included (e.g. zucchini, patty pans are summer squash). Feed chopped into bite-sized pieces to avoid choking. When cooked they will be soft and can be mushy – but should still be fed chopped. Winter squashes & pumpkins are firm with tough rind and large, hard seeds (e.g., pumpkin, butternut squash are winter squashes-feed ONLY the flesh to your pet). Cook to soften and cut into bite-sized pieces.

CALCIUM: A very important mineral in metabolism, making up about 2% of body weight.

IRON: The best-known nutrition fact about iron is that meats and plant foods are rich in iron. More health problems worldwide are caused by iron deficiency than by lack of any other nutrient.

POTASSIUM: Vegetables, especially green leafy varieties, are generally our richest sources of potassium. But this mineral can also be found in varying amounts in almost all foods.

MAGNESIUM: Key mineral in human metabolism. In fact, magnesium is necessary for more than 300 chemical reactions in the body.

PHOSPHORUS: The 2nd most abundant inorganic element in the body and is a port of many important compounds, including ribonucleic acid (RNA), deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and sugar phosphates. Phosphate helps to protect blood systemic acid-base balance and acts as a transport mechanism for energy.

SODIUM: Did you know your bodies need sodium in order to maintain pH balance & hydration? Also, needed for muscle contractions & nerve transmissions. Sodium also regulates the fluid outside of the cells and is needed to pump fluid into the cells as potassium carries by-products out.

ZINC: A necessary co-factor for a number of critical enzymes. In fact, more than 300 zinc-dependent enzymes are currently known. Even a mild dietary deficiency of zinc can have far-reaching health implications.

COPPER: A key mineral in many different body systems. It is central to building strong tissue, maintaining blood volume, and producing energy in your cells.

FLOURINE: A deficiency in fluorine may cause increased dental cavities and possibly osteoporosis due to a lack of fluorine in the diet.

MANGANESE: Insufficient intakes of manganese is associated with poor bone formation. This phenomenon is thought to be due to altered formation of the protein matrix that keeps minerals like calcium in place.
