Butternut squash seeds and the oil derived from them are a delicious and fantastic source of plant-based protein and fiber. This oil is healthy alternative to the typical grapeseed-olive-sesame and coconut oil.
NOTE: Seed oils are processed using 3 different methods:
1. Cold pressed (pressing temperature never goes above 122° F)
2. Expeller pressed (extracted using a chemical-free mechanical process)
(both apply pressure to the seed to extract the oil)
3. chemical solvent extraction aka Hexane (seeds are placed in a chemical brew to get to the oil)-typical for mass-produced conventional cooking oils. EXTREMELY HARSH on the seed & can leave CHEMICAL RESIDUES in the oil/seeds/powder ultimately changing the natural flavor profile.
Our oil is expeller-pressed and reaches temperatures of approximately 140° F (due to heat from the mechanical friction of the press), BUT still low enough to RETAIN THE NUTTY TASTE & FLAVOR PROFILE, NUTRIENTS & QUALITY. With the help of food scientists, they were able to figure the best way to capture the magic in the bottle you will enjoy! Contains the necessary vitamins and minerals like LUTEIN that are beneficial to the body. The seeds that make our oil and protein powder are skillfully roasted to in order to develop a that nutty-robust flavor.
This company’s mission is very much in line with ours. They believe in keeping things as natural and local as possible without the use of chemicals, excessive heating or harsh filtration processes. The local farmers pre-clean and dry the seeds prior to sending them off to the company kitchen for processing. These seeds are then placed into a steel roaster in order to obtain the perfect texture and flavor. Seeds are then run through a mechanical expeller press which uses pressure to press out the oil. the oil is then allowed to rest for a very short time in order to settle. It is then lightly filtered to remove seed particles that may remain-this process helps increase the smoke point of oil. The oil is then bottled the very SAME DAY. This entire process takes just a few days from the time the seeds are received from the farmers.
